Roy Keane calls out current England star for ‘diving’ during Premier League matches

The Manchester United legend wasn't happy with one England player's recent behaviour in the Premier League.

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has called out one England star for his actions in a recent Premier League clash.

Now that every team has played two matches in the Premier League, fans and pundits have started evaluating some of the biggest teams are players across the division, predicting how they might perform throughout the season.

As it stands, Arsenal are on top of the table having scored six goals without conceding in wins over Manchester United and Leeds United, while West Ham United are rock bottom with zero points and a goal difference of -7.

One person who will no doubt have been watching the opening rounds closely is Thomas Tuchel, who will name his England squad for the upcoming international break on Friday.

And there is one player that will certainly be on Tuchel's shortlist that Premier League legend Keane claimed hasn't been impressive in his first games of the 25/26 season.

In the second round of Premier League fixtures, perhaps the best match was Liverpool's dramatic win over Newcastle United at St James' Park.

Shortly after Liverpool took the lead through Ryan Gravenberch, Newcastle star Anthony Gordon was sent off after a brutal challenge on Virgil van Dijk was deemed to be serious foul play.

The former Everton man later apologised for the challenge, frustrating Keane who claimed that Gordon was being hypocritical.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Stick to Football podcast, Keane stated: “Isn’t football mad?

“Newcastle were kicking Liverpool all over the place, getting stuck in. There’s nothing wrong with that, physicality. Then anyone touches any of the Newcastle players and they were rolling around.

“Gordon is a prime example. You look at Gordon and he falls over. Then he is running around kicking everybody and apologising afterwards. I didn’t mean it. Well what were you doing?"

Across his career, Gordon has 12 caps for the England senior national team, with his most recent appearance being the friendly match against Senegal that the Three Lions lost 1-3.

With the 2026 World Cup coming up next summer and a new manager to impress, the 24-year-old will be eager to stand out across this season and put himself in contention for a spot on the plane going to the US next year.
